Randy Emelo, Founder/Chief Strategist
Randy Emelo is the founder of River, a Denver-based company that builds mentoring and social learning software. He is also the company’s Chief Strategist, focusing on the development and delivery of a broad array of training, consulting, and support services that compliment River’s award-winning software.
Randy has more than 25 years of experience in management, training, and leadership development, and is a prolific author, speaker, and thought leader on topics related to collaboration, mentoring, social learning, and talent development. Randy’s highly regarded book, Modern Mentoring, is available from ATD Press.
Randy holds a master’s degree in organizational design and effectiveness from Fielding Graduate University (formerly The Fielding Institute) in Santa Barbara, CA.
Chris Browning, President
Chris Browning is President of River. In his role, Chris oversees and drives the performance of the organization, from our award-winning software to our personalized services.
Chris has more than 20 years of management, business consulting, and organizational development experience, and has spent the last 11 years at River in various roles. Prior to joining River, he worked at Keane Consulting Group in both internal and external capacities. On the external consulting side, Chris provided business process consulting services to clients in a variety of industries/sectors, including insurance and financial services, IT, manufacturing and government. On the internal side, he served as the Organizational Development Manager and was responsible for all learning and development and knowledge management programs. Chris has also worked in the nonprofit sector in development and counseling/life-coaching capacities.
Chris holds MBA and BS degrees from the University of Notre Dame.
Kent McSparran, Chief Financial Officer
Kent McSparran is the Chief Financial Officer for River and also serves as Chairman of River’s Board of Directors.
An entrepreneur, management consultant and private investor, Kent has worked with hundreds of companies, ranging from start-ups to Fortune 50 in the areas of strategy and finance. Kent was formerly President of The Denver Management Group, Senior Vice President of Keane Consulting Group, and Partner in Charge of Consulting Services for EKS&H.
Kent holds a B.S. degree from the University of Minnesota’s Carlson School of Management.
Rob Meidal, Chief Technology Officer
Rob Meidal is Chief Technology Officer for River, where he is responsible for the long-term technical and strategic direction of the company’s products.
Rob has more than 16 years of technology experience in industries such as telecommunications, healthcare and broadcasting. Prior to his current role, Rob served for six years as River's Software Architect where he played a pivotal role in the architecture and development of our software. Before joining River, Rob served as a development team lead at Davita, Inc. where he helped architect and build the highly successful LabScope Online product, which is considered an industry-leading patient lab system. At Fresnius Medical Care he was instrumental in re-architecting the touchscreen-based interfaces of the Chairside Charting point-of-care system.
Rob has a BA in Communications from Western State College of Colorado.
Laura Francis, Vice President of Marketing
Laura Francis is Vice President of Marketing for River. Laura oversees all external and internal communications for the company, branding, marketing strategy, and lead generation.
Laura has more than 20 years of writing and marketing experience, and is a long-time employee of River, joining the company in 2000 as a senior writer and editor. Her fingerprints can be seen on many of the articles, eBooks, blogs, and collateral that River produces, as well as in the creative direction of the company’s message to the market.
Laura has a BA in Communications from Mount St. Joseph University.
